In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a hunter who was known for his beauty which was noticed by all. While finding a river to quench his thirst, Narcissus sees his reflection, which he finds as beautiful as a marble statue. Not realizing it was his own reflection, Narcissus fell deeply in love with it.
This project is a reflection (hehe) of the myth. I wonder, had Narcissus seen his delayed image, would he have grown disgusted by it?
In this project, I think of time as a dimension that i can meddle with. Through coding, I had been able to make a "faulty mirror", where your reflection is delayed by up to 15 second.
The mirror is an item that allow us to look back at ourself right at the moment. However, when the mirror is delayed, we will have a short amount of time to ponder how we would look like. This idea of ourself will clash with the actual image of ourself 15 seconds ago when it is finally shown, which create a sense of dissociation with the self.
This can be compared to the act of looking back at your past, and to feel the imperfections, the guilt of what had passed. Each retrospection give you more insight of yourself. However, living your life by constantly looking back at the past and feeling it's guilt is a sense of self-loathing, which will lead you to a downward spiral if you don't break through. Look back, but remember to look forward too.
Or you can play rock-paper-scissors with yourself in the past :D change the delay time as low as possible to increase difficulity!
